Salt & Light
You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, giving light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 5: 14 - 16
What does it mean to be the salt and light of the world?
What does it mean to let your light shine?
Well, this is my take on it.
As a child of God, letting your light shine is being bold to show the goodness in you. It’s not being afraid to show the world who you are, a child of God.
It’s showing up in the world with all your Godly characteristics, so that your father, GOD will be glorified.
As Christians, we represent God through Jesus Christ and when we live like Jesus, we show the world that this is where we stand, this is our identity and, this is who we are. Period.
Just like a child represents his/her earthly father and therefore has to carry themselves well so as not to tarnish the family name, we do the same as Christians to portray ourselves in a way that does not tarnish our Father’s name but to give him glory.
When we let our light shine,
We stand boldly in our standards as children of God, not being lukewarm and following the patterns of this world but following the pattern of God’s word.
In a world full of hurt, hatred and resentment, we learn to forgive and let go but also create healthy boundaries.
We learn to keep our hearts pure even amid negativity and oppression.
We learn to love others even as we receive God’s love for ourselves.
In my opinion, when we walk in our truest identity as children of God, we naturally let our light shine.
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” John 8:12
